become your own hero

Whilst browsing through some articles, i found this book written by a guy called Nate Green. As i began to read through it i quickly came to the conclusion this guy knows what's up. He has written some very good advice about ways to take control of your life and start living the way you truly want, as opposed to the way 'expected' of you. He shares many of the same philosophies about life as i do, and has inspired me to become my own hero. Have a read and perhaps it will for you too..

The Adventure begins

All journeys start with a first step.
This site is no exception, i am by no means a talented writer, i can think of countless other tasks in which i feel far more comfortable performing. However, perhaps if i spend more time on these tasks that i find so difficult could it mean? possibly?? that i might actually adapt, grow!. I feel that by challenging oneself, you can accomplish more than you could imagine. Sure it's hard, definitely scary but at the end of the day, its worth it.
I have fairly recently discovered a way to challenge myself constantly, daily at that. It embodies both the physical prowess of our evolutionary ancestors and the mental fortitude of the most hardened leaders. (Yes, this all sounds abit stupid) but those of you who consistently put yourself in these conditions know what I'm on about, Its called crossfit, and its testing the limits of human performance. Did i also mention its fun as hell?.
Crossfit incorporates weightlifting, gymnastics and metabolic conditioning. All of this rolled up into one fast, intense period of pure grunt work, which of course minutes into it, has you thinking, why on earth am i doing this again?? But don't stress, because when the heavy, rapid breathing begins to diminish, and you find yourself able to string a few words together that somewhat resemble a sentence, you'll most likely hear yourself saying "that (gasp) was (gasp) awesome". "Totally fucked.. but awesome".
I suppose the real reason for this site is to provide a vehicle for interest, discussion and education about health and fitness in the broadest sense. How can we achieve optimal health?.
As i sat in this mornings lecture, listening to the cost of physical inactivity on not only our health but consequently a host of other societal problems; it became abundantly clear that we have to do something.
The obesity epidemic we find ourselves in is out of control and we are all feeling the effects, a combination of personal negligence and misinformation from supposed knowledgeable sources has led to the modern western diet of processed foods, mix this with an almost sedentary way of life and you have a recipe for chronic health problems. The good news is, its never too late to reverse the symptoms of a lifetime of poor health and enjoy the abundance of positive effects from a healthy lifestyle.
It is my goal to experience, record and share the highs and the lows of trying to become a high level athlete and trainer in my own right. Whilst hopefully inspiring others to embark on their own journey to fitness, good health and endless possibilities.
should be fun yeh..
